Becoming more knowledgeable
The first step in becoming a more competitive fantasy player is to gain more realtive knowledge on the subject and have that knowledge be up to date. Most players have general football knowledge or even above average football knowledge but all good fantasy players have up to the second football knowledge specific to fantasy. Do they watch ESPN or NFL Network constantly? No. Of course not. They have apps like Rotowire and Bleacher Report installed on their smartphones that alert them the minute something happens and news about a player breaks. This will keep you a step ahead of the casual player and at the same level as a competitive player. Taking it a step further you can go to Twitter and follow Adam Schefter along with team beat reporters and other fantasy anyalists. News always breaks on Twitter first. And if you ain't first you're last.
Now the question I can feel coming. Should I buy the magazines? And my answer might surprise some. Sure if you don't mind spending the $ on a magazine or 2 and like a nice poop reader it's a great intro to the upcoming season. I've always bought at least one magazine and read through it in early August to refamilirize myself with the changes in the league (coaching, the draft, free agents) but just know that's about as far as it goes. Fantasy changes day to day. Players relevant in early August become irrelevant at the time of your draft and vice versa. Don't fall victim of drafting with outdated information.
Summary:
•Download Bleacher Report or Rotowire
•Follow Shefty and other football news sources on Twitter
•Magazines are good for early research only
