Rookie Preview (WR edition part 1)
1) Jerry Jeudy (Broncos) ADP:97
I listed the RBs by their respective ADPs. I started to do that with the WRs and it just didn't look right without Jeudy on top. He is the most NFL ready WR in this rookie class. He'll instantly become Denver's #1 or at minimum 1b to Sutton. His route running is what sets him apart from the rest. Can stop and start on a dime. Solid hands and catch radius for his size. Great at digging balls out of the dirt although he can get tangled up with balls that get into his body. A clean hands catcher with strong squeeze on the ball. His frame is a bit wirey but he makes up for it with elite body control. He explodes off the LOS and gets on top of man Corners forcing them off balance. Deadly in the open field with the ball in his hands. Shurmur has a lot to prove as a play caller and getting the ball to their shiny new toy in creative ways will make him look like the right man for the job. His early 8th round ADP is a proper value. However In keeper or dynasty formats his value jumps tremendously.
Jeudy might be the most pro ready WR here but CeeDee is a special kind of talent at the position. He does everything well and some things that nobody can do physically. When he gets the ball in his hands it's like he becomes a return specialist. He breaks tackles at an alarming rate for a WR and is always a threat to take a screen to the house. At 6'2 191 he's not the biggest guy but he plays big and fights for every catch. He has great "late hands" as scouts say. Which means he doesn't give away the ball is in the air to the covering CB until he's about to make the catch. Lamb dosent have burner type speed but his ability to take short balls and rack up yards after the catch more than makes up for it. As for his fantasy value I don't see him having a lead role in this offense of the cowboys there's just too many mouths to feed and only 1 ball to go around.
3) Henry Ruggs III (Raiders) ADP:118
It was a bit of a surprise when Las Vegas made Ruggs the 1st WR taken in the 2020 draft. This was reminiscent of an Al Davis pick. Take the fastest guy available. Ruggs can burn for sure but he's also a polished route runner. Ruggs can stop and start on a dime and use his elite speed to create massive separation from defenders. Early reports say Ruggs will be playing out of the slot which would suggest a high volume roll. That's something he didn't experience at Alabama. Hence we won't really know what to expect from Ruggs at the NFL level till we see it. I'm a little down of Ruggs after training camp reports have him ceding reps to Bryan Edwards in camp. If he slips he's worth a shot but I'd rather take that shot on someone else.
I'll admit I didn't watch much of Reagor in college being out of TCU but I no doubt heard his name leading up to the draft. The kid is as athletic as they come with high end speed and moves like a running back with the ball in his hands. His team situation will lead you to think he'll be heavily targeted immediately in the Eagles offense. When you watch his tape you see his speed and explosiveness. He's definitely a play maker and at TCU they used creative ways to get the ball in his hands. I think the Eagles need to do the same with him. If they throw him out at WR and treat him like a #1 I believe he will be a disappointment. His route running could use work and he's got a problem with drops (what is it about the eagles drafting WRs that drop passes!?!?) %16.8 drop rate to be exact. In case you were wondering that's really really high. One thing that may safeguard his fantasy outlook is that he probably won't get benched over drops being a 1st round pick and not many healthy WRs on the roster. Although, if he drops passes in big spots at the pro level Wentz will surely go elsewhere especially with one of the most sure handed TEs on his team. I might take a shot at him late in some drafts if he slips to the 12th or 13th round. He has elite speed and play making ability and that's not something you can get late in your draft everyday.
5) Justin Jefferson (Vikings) ADP:107
With Diggs in Buffalo now the Vikings were on the hunt for a WR in this years draft and they got a nice one. Jefferson is a versatile route runner who's not afraid to work the middle of the field. He was the #1 WR for the best QB in college football last season and looks to immediately make an impact. Jefferson is tall and plays big. Boxes out defenders and can win the 50/50 balls. He figured to start opposite Thielen to open the season but early reports from training camp have him the #3 behind Bisi Johnson. That could just be Kubiak exhibiting favoritism over a rookie or he could need more time learning the playbook. Or Bisi might be taking a big step in his career. It's worth to note Jefferson is at least above FA signing Tajae Sharpe. I figure in time he can climb the depth chart but I'm not sure its worth a 9th round pick in redraft to find out. Definitely a situation to monitor moving forward
6) Brandon Aiyuk (49ers) ADP:169
Aiyuk is a big run after the catch guy. Dangerous with the ball in his hands and built thicker than most WRs. He's a threat to score on any touch but lacks the top end burner type speed to take the top off a defense. He needs some development when it comes to running routes and hes not a size or speed mismatch for defenses either. All things considered he's set up well in the offense for fantasy purpose with Deebo on the shelf and Emmanuel Sanders now in NOLA its pretty much Aiyuk's job to lose. I'm buying all the shares I can of him at his 15th round ADP.
