Week 2 regroup and week 3 waiver adds
Week 2 recap of misses
What can I say that hasn't already been said about this week we shall never speak of. As a fantasy community we lost some of the biggest stars and we hate to see players' seasons end like this. The injuries are too long to list but I also personally had some major misses in anyalsis that I'd like to address.
•Nyheim Hines: I suspect it was not getting out of bounds in the first half of week 1s game that had him fall out of favor. Or it was the thought process that JT is a workhorse and dosen't need to be replaced in passing situations like Mack. Either way I was wrong and I apologise for the FAAB you wasted listening to me. He's not startable right now but I wouldn't drop him.
•Ronald Jones: I wasn't a big advocate for RoJo all year but I really liked him in this matchup. I had a feeling a mistake would cost him his role in that offense but I never thought it would happen so quickly.
•Philip Rivers: My second miss on QB stream. This one cost me personally as I fired him up in a few leagues over Minshew. I learned my lesson. I'll never fade Minshew but I will continue to stream QBs. Trust the process not the results. Or something.
•Anthony Miller: I wasn't overly concerned with Miller's snap rate because he still got the targets when on the field week 1 and was very efficient on those targets. Well the bottom fell out week 2 in a smash matchup with the G-Men. It appears he's sliding down the depth chart for some odd reason.
•Dear Gardner Minshew,
I will never doubt you again. You are my hero.
-Chris
•Noah Fant: I faded him due to matchup but it looks like he's the focus of that passing attack no matter who the QB is.
•Melvin Gordon: Faded him due to matchup as well and now with Sutton out for the year and Lindsay missing games Gordon should be heavily leaned on.
Week 2 waiver wire adds
Now that I got my most glaring misses out of the way. Let's move forward and put that awful week behind us. There were a ton of injuries so some players will be thrust into larger roles for their teams. These are the guys I'll be targeting on the waiver wire and how much FAAB I'm willing to spend on each one.
Running Backs
#1 Mike Davis With McCaffery slated to miss 4-6 weeks Davis is my #1 add at RB. The high waiver claim and amount of FAAB you should spend is relative to your situation. If you lost a big piece and need an RB right away spending 30-35% of FAAB for a 4-6 week starter is fine. If you don't see yourself starting him and didn't suffer injuries to your main RBs I'd throw out a 15-20% bid on him.
#2 Jerrick Mckinnon McKinnon was already involved with Mostert and Coleman healthy. Now they are both probably going to miss the game against the Giants. If it's a 1 week filler at RB McKinnon is your guy. He should flirt with RB1 upside this week. And if I needed a back in a pinch I'd shell out around $12 in FAAB to aquire his services. That is if he's available
#3 Darrell Henderson If Akers misses the next game with this rib Injury and Malcolm Brown is limited with that pinky issue Henderson might shoot up to the top of this list. He should be involved going forward too but this is a pretty messy backfield. However, whoever emerges (if someone emerges) as the lead back will have league winning upside. $10 in FAAB for Henderson.
#4 Jeff Wilson Jr. For the same reasons I'm adding McKinnon yet you're aquiring him for much cheaper. McKinnon can't handle the workload and the 49ers should run away with this game. If you have a lower waiver claim and want to be cheap with FAAB for a week 3 plug and play he's perfect. Throw $3-5 in FAAB and see what happens.
#5 Myles Gaskin This is purely a volume play for extremely RB needy teams. He can fill in bye weeks and get you 10-15ish points in a pinch. That backifeld is as low ceiling as they come However. $2 if you must
I'm not targeting any of the Giants backfield or Devonta Freeman if he ends up signing there. Saquan could barely get anything going behind that offensive line and it should be a mess of a split for a team that should be trailing often. Let other managers waste FAAB and claims on them.
Wide receivers
#1 Russell Gage Ok, I was kinda wrong about him. I didn't see the Falcons sustaining the ridiculous amount of pass attempts from week 1 but they are an extremely high volume passing offense. Now with Julio slightly hobbled and Gage getting another 9 targets he's worth a claim if still available but unfortunately he probably isn't. $10 sounds about right
#2 Keelan Cole I'm going to be a lot higher than others on Cole but that's also because I'm a lot higher on Minshew than most. Even as high as I was on Minshew going into the season he is still exceeding my expectations. Cole has led this team in targets for the second week in a row. I'm not saying Cole is the #1 offense for this offense but I'm also not not saying it. $8 in FAAB for what looks like the 1B for Minshew.
#3 Michael Pittman Jr The upside for Pittman with Campbell out is crazy. I know in the savvier leagues he was drafted but on the off chance he's sitting on waivers take a shot. $5-$7 of FAAB works.
#4 N'Keal Harry 6 targets in week 1 and now 12 in week 2. Cam looks rejuvenated and is making some of the most accurate throws in his career. I'm not as high on Harry as most people but he's still worth an add if you're needy at WR. $6 in FAAB for Harry.
#5 Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Rodgers has been playing lights out this season and it looks like MVS is finally putting it together. He's dissapointed before when he's been given an opportunity so I'm not going crazy on him but I'll throw a $3 bid on him for a WR needy team
#6 Chase Claypool This is more of a long play for later in the season if one of the 2 top WRs gets injured. He has the upside to produce in that scenario. $1-$2 for Chase.
Tight Ends
#1 Drew Sample If you're in need of a TE he's my top add. Burrow's penchant for targeting his TE goes back to LSU and Thaddeus Moss. Sample could return low end TE1 value rest of season 10% of your FAAB budget should get him for a TE needy team.
#2 Dalton Schultz Replacing Jarwin in week 2 Schultz saw a team high 10 targets. He should have weekly TD upside as the Cowboys starting TE. They won't always have the passing volume they had in week 2 but he can be utalized in plus matchups. $5 FAAB
I'm not using FAAB on Jordan Reed. Kittle should be back and I don't see him producing TE1 value in 2TE sets. Let other managers chase the points.
Quarterback
Gardner Minshew: If by some miracle he's still out there go get him now. 10-15% of FAAB is reasonable. I'd hate to waste FAAB on a QB as I can stream the position but he's been crazy efficient so far and he should see more volume moving forward. He could push into the top 7-8.
The FAAB suggestions I'm giving are what I believe they are worth in most leagues. If you are in a crazy deep league. A league with a different kind of situation that overvalues particular positions adjust the amount accordingly. Or even if you just feel strongly about a particular player and want to guarantee getting him. Feel free to go as high as you deem necessary. The amounts I'm providing in no way guarantee winning your league's FAAB bids. Quite the contrary actually. I'm rather conservative this week due to not feeling like any of these players offer league winning upside.
