Week 3 start/sit
This week start/sits are easy for some. They have no choice due to all the injuries. However, if you actually have decisions to make this week you came to the right place. As usual I'll start with the Running Backs. Let's dive into it.
Running Backs
Start✅
Joshua Kelly This is in no way an indictment on Ekeler. I think they both are starts. Last week Kelly had 23 rushing attempts in neutral game script vs KC. Now with a predicted positive game script he's hard not to love in this spot. He's also tied for 3rd in Redzone rush attempts among active RBs trailing only Zeke and Henry.
Jerrick Mckinnon & Jeff Wilson Jr Week 1 it was Benny Snell. Last week it was David Montgomery. "Who are, RBs that faced the Giants?" The Giants are becoming a major target for opposing RBs and now the #1 rushing attack rolls into town. McKinnon should be the lead but in only his 3rd game in 2 years I don't see him getting 20+ touches so there should be enough food on the table for both backs to eat.
Kareem Hunt Again this isn't a "sit Nick Chubb" thing this is a "I'd start both" thing. Chubb should get his in this predictive positive game script. However, Washington does have an attacking and penetrating front that will probably limit Baker to short drops and be more conducive to outside runs, dump offs, and screen passes. That's Kareem's territory.
Devin Singletary If the Rams defense has a weakness; it's against the run. With Zack Moss out Singletary should see an uptick in carries and there's a chance they actually let him touch the ball in the redzone. Just hope you don't see TJ Yeldon trot out there inside the 5.
D'Andre Swift If you're in Full PPR Swift is a nice play in your flex. He's solidified himself in the pass catching role and Detroit should be in for negative game script.
David Montgomery In what looks like an attempt to hide Trubisky's ineptitude the Bears are becoming quite run heavy and revolving the offense around Monty. I think you'll see more of the same against Atlanta to keep that high flying attack on the other side grounded. Montgomery also turned 3 targets into 3/45/1 so he's got a high floor and pretty high ceiling as well.
Sit❌
Devonta Freeman I'm baffled as to why I'm seeing Freeman in people's starting lineups. He just got into town and Saquan couldn't even get traction in this offense. Now they are facing one of the league's top defenses in the 49ers. So much nope.
Todd Gurley Gurley owners must be on full tilt after seeing other RBs in at Goalline last week. His 2.9 YPC and 0 targets in that game tell the story. I'd want nothing to do with him in this matchup. He's outside my top 30 this week.
Melvin Gordon I'm not all out on Melvin Gordon as a start but he's getting a massive downgrade to close to flex value. Take a look what TB did to Kamara/Latavius and CMC before he left injured. However he does get the volume and can bouy his value with passing game work.
Nyheim Hines I fell into the Hines trap last week and I just can't trust his usage at all. Especially in predicted positive game script. The most 2020 thing ever would be him operating as the lead back in week 3.
Wide Receivers
Start ✅
Corey Davis Yes Corey Davis is an actual thing this year. The Vikings have been the gift to Wide Receivers that keeps on giving. Even if this turns into a Derrick Henry game he should get his targets and give you a comfortable floor.
Michael Gallup/Amari Cooper/CeeDee Lamb Once again fire up your Cowboys. This is becoming a weekly theme. Only problem is there's usually an odd man out here. Last week it was Gallup. I think he gets his this week. If Seattle is strong anywhere in the secondary it's Jamal Adams at saftey. He will most likely be on Shultz and around the line of scrimmage keying on Zeke in the passing game.
TY Hilton Last week was a "What could have been" week with the dropped 44yd TD. I think the chemistry improves this week. Hilton can be in for a huge game with Campbell on the shelf.
Russell Gage With Julio hobbled Gage should step into an every down role and if Chicago has a weakness it's the middle of the field where Gage likes to work. I actually think he benefits if Julio ends up playing.
Darius Slayton Against San Francisco!?!? The first two weeks of the season San Francisco has been gashed by outside WRs. Hopkins at a ridiculous rate week 1 and Hogan had some success. Even if the game gets out of hand for the Giants there's always Garbage time.
Sit❌
Odell Beckham Jr Washington's penetrating front 4 is going to make it tough on Baker to get the ball down the field. OBJ seems locked into a deep threat/double move role. These routes need time to develop something Baker will have very little of on Sunday.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling Davante Adams looks like he's going to miss this game and I see some managers thinking "Ohh great more targets for MVS." Not so fast. If Adams is out MVS will see Lattimore in coverage and it changes the entire dynamic of that offense. He can't operate as a #1 WR. I see GB relying on Aaron Jones and using Lazard as a possession WR.
Mike Williams With the rookie in and a beatable matchup I don't see the Chargers taking many shots downfield and that's Mike Williams territory. Chargers should control this game from the coin toss and use the run game to protect their rookie QB.
Sammy Watkins/Demarcus Robinson/Mecole Hardman Ravens are a really tough matchup but they can be worked underneath and in the middle of the field. I think this is a Kelce game if anything for the Chiefs. I'm not interested in any of the 3rd options or deep threats in this one.
Tight Ends
Start✅
Hayden Hurst For the same reasons Gage was a start and also in previous weeks: Hockenson 5/56/1 and Engram 6/65 (led team). From the looks of it OCs like the TE matchup they get against Chicago.
Jordan Reed Pretty much the only healthy pass catcher besides Ayiuk and Bourne. Reed should see the targets. He'll have the most favorable matchups on the field more times than not. He capitalized last week with Kittle out why not make it 2/2.
Tyler Higbee The Bills are another defense weak up the middle. Higbee is becoming Goff's favorite target in the redzone as well.
Jonnu Smith AJ Brown is out again and the Titans continue to manufacture touches for thier hyper athletic TE. Start him with confidence.
TJ Hockenson Arizona isn't looking like the super soft TE matchup they were in the past but they aren't exactly strong against them either. With Golladay not yet at 100 percent his presence should open up the offense for more efficient targets to go Hock's way. However, once Golladay gets up to speed the targets might not be there ROS for the sophomore TE.
Sit❌
Evan Engram Even in predicted negative game script other teams haven't targeted their TEs much against SF. Engram is the best they have faced so far but I'd prefer other TEs this week.
Rob Gronkowski I STILL see Gronk in people's TE spots. He's not the player he once was. Now with Godwin back the targets won't even be there for the taking. He's a blocking TE now 😂
*Beware* not a full sit
Darren Waller We all know what Belichick does best. He takes away your best weapon on offense. That's Waller for Vegas. You're definitely starting him but don't expect numbers like you saw Monday night.
Quarterbacks
Start✅
Ryan Tannehill Even with AJ Brown out Tannehill has been fantastic. Minnesota is a great matchup and he's in another high floor spot.
Ben Roethlisberger With all his weapons Big Ben is dangerous and this is a burnable matchup. With Conner back as the starter it makes this offense as a whole more unpredictable. Ben should feast.
Matt Stafford Stafford can return borderline QB1 production this week. Arizona is "Shootout Friendly" and he should get his BFF back. With the second highest O/U this week I'm excited for this one. Should be an offensive explosion.
Sit❌
Tom Brady Low O/U, Positive game script, and inefficient play. These are my reasons I'm fading Brady. He probably has a good real life day but in fantasy I don't see the volume needed for QB1 numbers.
Aaron Rodgers He's been on fire latley so this is crazy right? Ehh not so much. Without Davante this whole offense changes and New Orleans is no slouch on defense.
Drew Brees Same game other side. I think Brees has an efficient game but his deep ball isn't really there anymore. He really misses Mike Thomas. Kamara is always a threat to take a screen to the house but I don't want to rely on that for production.
That's it for this week hope you enjoyed reading it as I do writing. Follow me on twitter and hit me up with any questions you got @Chris_Cianci
